How to Maintain Momentum After VBS

Exhilaration and exhaustion hit full force after Vacation Bible School ends. You and your volunteers have likely been spread thin, and are ready to kick up your feet until Christmas bells start ringing.

As tempting as it can be to hit the snooze button on Children’s ministry during the fall, there are invaluable opportunities for outreach in the post-VBS season. Fall can be a time to harness that VBS momentum, and reach not only kids, but whole families for Christ.

PRAY

The first step in maintaining that VBS momentum is to lift up your ministry in prayer. Take a moment to look through your VBS registration information, and reflect on all the families reached in your community. Begin praying for them and for how you can continue to have an influence in their lives.

FOCUS ON FAMILIES

Although Vacation Bible School is focused mainly on children, your post-VBS plan should include families. Begin by following up with the parents of your VBS kids. If you’re encouraging kids to attend Sunday school classes, include a note to parents about adult classes or Bible studies at your church. Think about how you can extend an invitation for each member in the family to get involved in your church.

FALL OUTREACH EVENT

An awesome way to minister to families after VBS is to host a family outreach event. Family events allow parents and children to learn Bible truths together, which promotes spiritual conversations that can extend long after the event is over. These events also provide a natural way for parents to encourage and support each other as they seek to raise godly children. Fall provides an excellent opportunity to plan a ministry event for the entire family and builds on momentum gained during VBS.
