How to Host a VBS Team Meal

What better way to kick off VBS planning and preparation with your team than with a themed meal? Eating together before the meeting allows time for your team to bond with each other and provides the energy needed to plan and prepare. Below are some fun ways to make your meal memorable and theme-focused.

Maker Fun Factory Foods

Pizza, tacos, sandwiches, salad, ice cream sundaes – all of these foods lend themselves to easy build-your-own meals (or dessert). Ask volunteers to help by bringing one or more toppings to share with the group.

Passport to Peru Foods

The obvious choice for this theme is Peruvian food like marinated chicken and picarones – check out some recipes here . For dessert test out a couple of the suggested snack recipes in the Incan Eats Leader Manual – Arroz con Leche (Rockin’ Rice Pudding) or Helado Fruita (Ice Cream for Joy!).

Rome Foods

Pasta, tomatoes, garlic bread – you get the idea. Serve an Italian meal and have team members bring the sides and desserts.

Operation Arctic Foods

Serve steaming, hot soup for dinner, followed by ice cream or popsicles for dessert.

Mighty Fortress & Over the Moat Foods

Think medieval for these themes – chicken pot pie, beef stew, roasted chicken with vegetables and crusty bread. A hearty warm meal is the key.

Hero Central & Super God Foods

Sub sandwiches (aka hero sandwiches) and a variety of snack foods are perfect for this theme.

Camp Out Foods

Roasted hot dogs and grilled hamburgers with s’mores for dessert make a delicious camp style dinner.

Focusing on your VBS theme as soon as possible will help develop a sense of unity and excitement within your team. Plus, everyone loves a yummy meal before a meeting!
