1. BUILD EXCITEMENT FOR VBS
Arm your staff and volunteers with VBS shirts early, and coordinate when to wear them. Pick a Sunday to launch your VBS sign-ups and plan to flood your church campus with VBS promotion. Kids will get excited about what’s coming, parents will be reminded to sign up, and everyone else will feel the buzz (and hopefully consider volunteering)!
2. BOOST TEAM SPIRIT
Your kids will be so much more excited about VBS activities and games when they feel like they are part of a team. Use different colored shirts to divide kids up by team, with the same logo to keep a unified and consistent look.
3. BRAND YOUR PHOTOS
Hopefully you’ve assigned someone to take photos at your VBS. When kids & staff are in branded t-shirts, photos are automatically associated with your VBS theme and year. That means that when people post them on social media, print them for decor in your Sunday School classrooms, or revisit them next year, your theme & week will be easy to recognize and memorable. Bonus- include your church name on your shirt so friends of kids/parents/volunteers who attended get exposed to your church name.
4. MAKE VOLUNTEERS EASY TO SPOT
By giving your volunteers a brightly colored shirt with the VBS logo or theme, they’re instantly easier to recognize. Communicate to your kids that they can go to the “nice people in orange shirts” if they have questions or need assistance. This is also vital for the first and last days of your VBS, so parents can easily differentiate between volunteer leaders and other parents.
5. CONTINUE TO RIDE THE VBS WAVE
After VBS is done, encourage your volunteers and kids to continue to wear their VBS shirts to church. This is a great way to continue to follow up with kids, and make sure the lessons they learned that week have not been forgotten. Use shirts to identify kids who attended (or even made decisions) and ask them how things are going, or if they can still recite the VBS memory verse.
6. EVANGELISM TOOL
When your kids and volunteers wear their VBS shirts out in the community, they create opportunities to invite people to church and share their experiences. You never know who they will share with at soccer practice, school or the grocery store, and VBS shirts can be a great tool to open up more opportunities to evangelize.
