How to Make Your VBS Stand Out

What to do when every church on your block has the same VBS theme.

Although other churches in the area might be having a Vacation Bible School with the same or similar theme as your church, you can easily make your VBS unique with these simple tips!

1. Change up the music.

In addition to the theme’s music, add a couple of songs your children already know. Children will feel comfortable singing songs they know while learning new ones, and new children will learn even more Bible truths from the songs.

2. Create your own decorations.

Your program’s provided decorations and decorating ideas are a tremendous asset; however, feel free to give your station leaders or classroom leaders the freedom to express their creativity while decorating their specific areas. You’ll be amazed at what they come up with, and children will love seeing a variety of styles and decorations throughout the week. (Check out DIY VBS decor ideas here!)

3. Include your church info on t-shirts.

VBS t-shirts help everyone remember what they learned at VBS and where they attended VBS. Add your church information to a custom t-shirt or design your own from scratch. Volunteers and children will love their unique VBS souvenir!

4. Build lasting relationships.

Kids might not remember every craft or game years after attending VBS, but they will remember the people who cared about them and invested in their lives. Encourage your volunteers to make personal connections with kids, and continue to build relationships with them in your Children’s Ministry after VBS.
